Can I fly with the SmartScoot ™ electric travel scooter?

Your SmartScoot ™ electric travel scooter is designed for air travel.

Consider its removable luggage bar, which can accommodate a wheeled carry-on bag through the airport. Just place the item on the bar, use bungee cords to secure it to the handle bars, and off you go.

Weighing only 40 pounds when fully assembled and breaking down into smaller, lightweight parts, SmartScoot ™ easily collapses to fit in either a cargo compartment or in the passenger cabin as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

What about the battery?

The electric travel scooter also meets DOT standards for lithium batteries, containing less than 25 grams of equivalent lithium content (ELC) and under 300 watts. The SmartScoot ™ battery has an ELC of 24 grams and is 288 watts.

Take note that the DOT requires visual inspection of lithium-ion battery powered mobility aids, including removal of the battery when necessary. The scooter, seat cushions and non-removable pouches or fanny packs will also be screened.

The DOT recommends mobility aids be “loaded, stowed, secured and unloaded in an upright position and in a manner that prevents unintentional activation and protects it from damage.”

Is there anything I need to do ahead of time to prepare for my trip?
